What Washington HC Danny Sprinkle said about Michigan State after loss

The Washington Men’s basketball team probably doesn’t want to think about the state of Michigan for a while. The Huskies, led by head coach Danny Sprinkle, hosted Michigan and Michigan State in a span of just a few days and took two straight losses. They were, however, two very different games, and the resulting press conference had a different tone.

The loss to Michigan came in a game that was close for much of the way, and Sprinkle’s press conference included some frustration with how the game was officiated. After Saturday’s loss to the Spartans, which came at a larger deficit than the loss to the Wolverines, Sprinkle was effusive in his praise of the MSU program, culture, and Tom Izzo. You can see his comments below:

  • “Obviously ran into a buzzsaw. We ran into a program with great tradition that has great habits for 40 minutes… When you watch a Coach Izzo-coached team, their habits are… It’s why they’ve been so successful for 35-40 years. They’re relentless, their intensity, their toughness. They don’t have many breakdowns, and all their players play with an edge which is really impressive. And you could kind of see we wore down towards the end.
  • Their pace is tremendous offensively. Fears is a great point guard, man, he gets that ball up that floor, and their wings are running. They put a lot of pressure on you in transition defense and then rebounding. Not just to us, they do it to every team they play. You gotta be ready to play a smash-mouth game when you play one of his coached teams.
