Chargers OC search: LA completes interview with Arthur Smith

As the Chargers continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, the Bolts have confirmed they have completed an interview with Arthur Smith.

Smith has spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, where he helped the Steelers to back-to-back playoff appearances and 10-win seasons.

Smith’s first year in the Steel City saw a heavy dose of the run, as Pittsburgh ranked 11th in the NFL in rushing offense (127.4 yards/game) and had the fourth-most rushing attempts (533). This past season, Smith had veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers at his disposal, who threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just 7 interceptions.

While Smith has spent the majority of his career with the Titans organization, where he served a variety of roles from 2011 to 2020, he is mostly remembered for his troubled tenure as head coach of the Falcons, during which he finished 21-30 across three seasons.

The likely attractive quality of Smith is his ability to run a well-designed scheme, which he demonstrated during his time in Tennessee from 2019 to 2020 alongside Derrick Henry and also in spurts during his tenure in Pittsburgh.
