Mark Fletcher Jr. throws punch at Indiana player, hugs Fernando Mendoza after national championship

MIAMI GARDENS, FL — There’s a lot of emotion in the wake of a hard-fought College Football Playoff national championship game. Miami running back Mark Fletcher Jr. ran the gamut after Indiana’s 27-21 win over the Hurricanes.

The junior running back rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns as Miami stayed close to the No. 1 Hoosiers throughout.

Postgame, he congratulated Heisman Trophy-winning IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Their paths crossed often during high school in the Miami area.

Soon after, he threw a punch at IU’s Tyrique Tucker. It’s unclear what prompted Fletcher.

Tucker said postgame that he had no idea why Fletcher swung at him. Tucker said he wanted to say good game to Fletcher, who just swung.
