Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is now tasked with finding a new defensive coordinator after Jeff Hafley was tapped to be the next head coach for the Miami Dolphins. According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, one of the Packers’ first interviews will be Philadelphia Eagles passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker.
Parker, 34, is a highly respected up-and-comer in the NFL coaching ranks who has interviewed for multiple defensive coordinator openings over the years. He interviewed for Green Bay’s defensive coordinator vacancy in 2024, but LaFleur ended up choosing Hafley.
LaFleur and Parker have history together, with Parker serving as a defensive quality control during LaFleur’s first two years in Green Bay. After leaving the Packers, Parker coached defensive backs for the Denver Broncos from 2021 to 2023 and has spent the last two seasons with the Eagles.
Under Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, Parker helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2024 by fostering one of the most talented secondaries in the league. Cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell were both named AP First-Team All-Pros in 2025. Parker has also coached the likes of Jaire Alexander and Patrick Surtain II during prime years.
It feels like a matter of when rather than if for Parker when it comes to landing a defensive coordinator job. Before he makes the trip to Green Bay, Parker will first interview for the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator job on Wednesday. So, the Packers may have to act fast if they hope to make Parker Hafley’s replacement.
