The Tennessee Titans‘ search for a head coach is finally over as they agreed to hire former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
Saleh has coached in the NFL since 2005, when he joined the Houston Texans. He has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Green Bay Packers. His most recent role was as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, and it was his second stint in that role with that team.
As head coach of the Jets, Saleh was as successful as any coach of that team has been in the last decade, which is to say that he was not successful at all. His head coaching record is 20-36 with zero playoff appearances. However, the Jets haven’t had a winning season since 2015, and they haven’t made the playoffs since Rex Ryan was the head coach. The fact that the 49ers wanted him back a second time speaks volumes about his true ability.
The Titans’ players tend to agree and seem to be pleased with this hire. Here are a few of their reactions to the news that Saleh would take over as head coach.
