After the Lions hired Drew Petzing as their new offensive coordinator on Monday, All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown shared his reaction to the news and even called out the collective overreactions from Detroit fans on the latest airing of the “St. Brown Podcast.”
St. Brown said on his podcast that quarterback Jared Goff was aware of the situation and expressed confidence in the possible hire. The 6-foot, 202-pound wide receiver also revealed that Lions head coach Dan Campbell had texted him before the news went public.
St. Brown urged Lions fans to take a deep breath before rushing to judgment on Campbell and the Lions’ decision to hire Petzing.
“I see Lions fans talking crazy like, ‘Why would we do this?’ Bro. Do you guys have no trust in Dan (Campbell) and the Lions? You think they would just hire a random dude? Be for real. You think they don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t do their research, they don’t interview?
“Most of you guys don’t know really much about anything, about any ball. And you’re tweeting about a coach that was hired that you guys don’t like because of XYZ? It’s just funny to me to see. Don’t get me wrong, I love all Lions fans, but they are so quick to make judgments about who we hired, who we did this… Just relax, calm down. Let the whole thing play out. Just let it play out. Just relax. That’s all I got to say. Relax, man,”

St. Brown just finished up a 2025 season where he earned second-team All-Pro status and was once again named to the Pro Bowl. In his fifth NFL season, St. Brown reeled in 117 catches for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns. St. Brown led the Lions in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2025 and ranked fifth in the NFL in both catches and receiving yardage.
While there is still a lot to do in the offseason for the Lions heading into next season, it is safe to say that several of the franchise’s star players have confidence in what the organization is doing for its future.
