NBC’s Saturday Night Live spoofed quarterback Jarrett Stidham ahead of the Denver Broncos‘ showdown with the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.
Last night, SNF did a Monday Night Football sketch previewing the Broncos‘ upcoming game against the Patriots. It’s interesting that SNF opted to use ESPN as the backdrop for the skit with “Troy Aikman,” “Joe Buck” and “Lisa Salters” because the Denver-New England matchup is a CBS game featuring Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson.
It’s possible that this MNF skit might have already been in the works, and SNL pivoted to include the Jarrett Stidham bit after Bo Nix went down with an injury. That’s just speculation, though.
Anyway, the four-and-a-half-minute bit features excessive promos for other Disney shows and a spoof “Quefs” show. Another gag is Salters writing off the Broncos’ season as being over before the game even starts. You can watch the full skit below:
After losing Nix to a season-ending ankle injury, Denver will start backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the AFC title game.
“So that’s Jarrett Stidham, I didn’t know what he looked like,” ‘Aikman’ says after Stidham’s sideline interview with Salters.
Sunday’s game (1:00 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on CBS (not ESPN).
