Bengals player shoots down silly Joe Burrow narratives

Near the end of the season, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow got refreshingly honest with the media, then immediately paid for it.

Unfounded speculation about Burrow’s playing future and/or remaining time in Cincinnati became a talking point for a little bit. The new cycle needed something, after all, and quarterback drama is juicy.

Bengals running back Chase Brown just said pretty much the same thing while chatting about the topic this week.

“Joe’s not going anywhere,” Brown told CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo. “I think that was totally blown out of proportion. It was definitely a good talking point for people. … It gave the media a lot to talk about and probably made [Burrow’s] Twitter notifications go off, but Joe’s not going anywhere.”

This is, of course, what everyone with even a remote understanding of Burrow or the Bengals already knew. But for fans, it has to be nice to see it said publicly by a player, at least to hopefully quiet some of the silly narratives out there.

Burrow sent some messages to the Bengals front office with his public comments, no doubt. And if those aren’t heeded by the organization, it feels pretty obvious Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin will feel the fire.

But while quarterback discourse is fun, Burrow leaving Cincinnati is just one of those non-starter conversations.
