What Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell said about Michigan State after loss

Something I have noticed after having covered Tom Izzo and Michigan State for a number of years is that Tom Izzo respects Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell about as much as any coach in the country. As usual, Izzo reiterated that respect in his own post-game comments.

In his own post-game comments, Pikiell tipped the hat to MSU, while trying to give praise to his players. You can see what he had to say below:

  • “Obviously, a great college basketball game. We had a chance against the seventh-ranked basketball team in the country with the ball down the stretch. Couldn’t ask more of our guys. We were not good against Indiana… Michigan State, obviously, credit… they cracked us on the glass.”
  • “I thought we did a good job on Kohler, who has been a problem for everybody.”
  • “They turned the ball over a lot today. They aren’t a team that turns the ball over. I think our speed and quickness kind of did some things to them. Our ball pressure was good.”
  • “Obviously, you’re gonna have to play hard against Michigan State and physical and all those things.”
  • “You know, Michigan State has the No. 1 half-court defense in the country, and they did a pretty good job and give them a little tip of the hat that down the stretch they buckled up and did what they do.”
