Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has reacted to Glody Makabi Lilepo’s stunner in their 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.
The DR Congo international unleashed a curler from an acute angle in the 67th minute, to ensure the Soweto giants walk away with maximum points in Bloemfontein.
Kaze was chuffed to see Lilepo get on the scoresheet, pointing out that the player had been making steady progress behind the scenes following an injury sustained in the CAF Confederation Cup.
“I would say that what a goal – it’s not a goal that you see everyday. I’m happy for Lilepo that he scored that goal because after his injury against AS Simba he was slowly coming back,” said the Burundian mentor.
“And there was a little bit [of] pressure on him in the last few weeks. But he responded well because he’s a big player that can make the difference.
The CAF A License holder went on to reflect on strengthening their league title hopes at the Dr. Petrus Molemela pitch that was visibly poor to host a professional football match.
“It’s a big win away from home on a very difficult field, but we didn’t want to complain about the field or to feel sorry for ourselves. We are a big team, we need to play in every conditions that we find ourselves in,” Kaze added.
“What I saw today, I’m not quite sure that there’s a lot of teams that were going to win on that field.
Chiefs leapfrogged bitter rivals Orlando Pirates into second on the log standings and moved within two points of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have amassed 32 points in 15 games.
