According to a report from Marca (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Atlético Madrid has made an offer to Bayern Munich for midfielder Leon Goretzka that would allow the midfielder to make the move to Spain before the end of the winter transfer window:
Atlético Madrid have submitted a €2-3m offer to Bayern for Leon Goretzka. The Spanish club is also willing to cover Goretzka’s Bayern salary for the rest of the season (around €8.5m). The player is convinced of the move. An agreement between the clubs is not expected to be a hurdle.
The fee of just €2 million to €3 million is not overwhelming, but it would help Bayern Munich avoid losing the Germany international for free in July. In addition, dumping the remainder of Goretzka’s salary would represent a significant cost savings for the Bavarians.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Goretzka is still in the process of making his final decision:
🚨ℹ️ FC Bayern are currently on their way back from Eindhoven. Leon #Goretzka has NOT yet made a final decision, and there is NO agreement between FC Bayern and Atlético at this stage.
In the next hours, the process will continue. Everything depends on Goretzka. Bayern are prepared to let him go if a suitable offer arrives.
The only obstacle in this deal (aside of Goretzka’s final decision) could be Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany, who might be reluctant to lose a veteran like Goretzka as the team chases a treble. There are bodies to slide into Goretzka roster slot (Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, David Santos Daiber, Felipe Chavez), but are they ready to compete consistently at a high-level?
That is the big question.
Players like Tom Bischof, Konrad Laimer, and Raphaël Guerreiro could also see enhanced roles in the central midfield as well.
