Report: Newly hired Sean Mannion will call the Eagles offensive plays

The Eagles have a new offensive coordinator, and while it won’t be his entire show, he’s reportedly going to be the primary playcaller. Philadelphia finally got its man, and a future big-time head coach, as thEagles are hiring Packers quarterback coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Kevin Patullo. After some initial scepticism and uncertainty, Mannion emerged as an intriguing and likable name and quickly became a potential dark-horse favorite. Mannion, Jim Bob Cooter, Jerrod Johnson, and Josh Grizzard all earned second interviews, but it’ll be Mannion who looks to get the Eagles’ offense back to its Super Bowl dominance from a year ago.

Mannion was a fast riser in the coaching business, joining Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff as an offensive assistant working with quarterbacks under Tom Clements immediately after his playing career ended in 2023. LaFleur promoted Mannion to quarterbacks coach in 2025. It happened quickly because Mannion just wrapped up a nine-year playing career in 2023 after stints with the Vikings and Seahawks.

Moments after Nick Sirianni commented on Mannion’s hire, Dianna Russini reported that the former NFL quarterback will be the primary play caller in Philadelphia. Mannion was the primary play caller for the West Team in Tuesday’s East-West Shrine Bowl game.

The West team won over the East team 21-17.
