At the 2026 Australian Open men’s singles final in Melbourne, Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in four sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to win his first Australian Open title and his seventh Grand Slam overall. Alcaraz dropped the first set but rallied strongly to take the next three and close out the victory.
By winning, Alcaraz became the youngest man ever to complete the career Grand Slam, winning all four major singles championships at the age of 22 years and 272 days. This broke the record previously set by Don Budge in 1938.

After the young tennis star won the 2026 Australian Open, Nike released a tribute video on social media. “287 wins. Ranked number one in the world at 19. 24 singles titles. 7 major titles. Now, a career grand slam. And just think, you have the rest of his life ahead of you,” the voice-over in the video said.

Born on May 5, 2003, in El Palmar, Murcia, Alcaraz turned pro in 2018. He became the youngest man’s world No. 1 in ATP rankings history in 2022 after winning the US Open at age 19. He followed that breakthrough with major titles at the Wimbledon Championships in 2023 and the French Open in 2024.
Many analysts view him as a central rival to established champions like Novak Djokovic and a long-term face of the sport. Still early in his career, Alcaraz is already considered one of the most complete young players tennis has seen in decades.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Djokovic was playing in his 11th Australian Open final and was seeking a record-extending 25th major title. But he did not reach the milestone. He had won all 10 of his previous finals in Melbourne but was denied that perfect record by Alcaraz.
