Texas A&M (17-4, 7-1 SEC) continues to play like one of the hottest teams in the country after defeating Georgia on the road 92-77, holding the lead from start to finish after a 20-2 run early in the first half provided a blueprint, as the Aggies had no problem producing in the paint and beyond the arc.
Led by star forward Rashaun Agee’s 18 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists, the senior recorded his 10th double-double of the season, and continues to be clutch late in games, while his two three-pointers proved that first-year head coach Bucky McMillan was right when he stated that Agee would find success from deep in due time.
As a team, the Aggies shot 45% from the field and made 13 three-pointers (38%), while, for the second consecutive game, they won the rebounding battle 46-39, including 14 offensive rebounds, which provided plenty of second-chance scoring opportunities and ultimately led to pulling out the 15-point road victory.
Agee’s importance is no longer understated at the national level, as the Aggies should be ranked in both the US LBM coaches poll and the AP Top 25 by Monday’s release, and while this has been a team effort, the USC transfer has been absolutely vital to the 7-1 start in SEC Play.
After the win, Agee spoke to SEC Network host Peter Burns, who asked the senior forward why the Aggies “work so well” this season.
“Man, we just love each other, we want to win for each other” Agee stated. “We came into this environment understanding that, and they (Georgia) try to play the way we play, and there’s only one of us. We started it and we’re gonna finish it.”
Texas A&M’s resilience and smart shot selection late in games, opting to take advantage of Agee’s strength and smooth operation in the paint, and after finishing 6-6 from the free throw line, including 19-20 as a team, Agee looks like a guaranteed bucket in tight situations, which in turn, opens up the three-point line for high percentage attemps.
Texas A&M will head back to College Station before taking on No. 23 Alabama on Wednesday, February 4, which will air on the SEC Network.
