Nate Oats’ Alabama Crimson Tide got a much-needed win Wednesday night in SEC play against the Texas A&M Aggies at Coleman Coliseum.
Alabama (15-7 overall, 5-4 conference) briefly trailed by six in the second half after Aggies (17-5, 7-2) guard Ali Dibba’s 3-pointer with 11:30 to play in the game made it 70-64.
Good thing Alabama had plenty of clutch shots still in its arsenal. Latrell Wrightsell’s trey with 1:11 left put the Crimson Tide in the lead for good at 97-95. It was one of 16 3-pointers in the game for Alabama.
Former Tide player Rylan Griffen, a big part of Oats’ Final Four team in 2024, missed a would-be game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer as Alabama finished off the SEC’s first-place team — just one game after its most lopsided loss of the season, a 100-77 drubbing at the hands of the Florida Gators in Gainesville.
All told, Alabama-Texas A&M featured 28 lead changes and 13 ties. Aden Holloway led the Crimson Tide in scoring for the second straight game with 20 points. Labaron Philon added 17 points and Wrightsell had 16. Amari Allen (12 points), Houston Mallette (12) and London Jemison (10) gave Alabama six players in double figures.
It marked the sixth time this season Alabama scored 100 points or more in a game, this time coming against former Samford Bulldogs coach and Birmingham native Bucky McMillan.
