ESPN links Detroit Lions as 'would-be' Maxx Crosby trade contender

After Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that star defensive end Maxx Crosby is likely “done” with the Raiders earlier this week, one of the prevailing storylines during Super Bowl LX week has been on a potential Crosby trade.

Glazer’s feeling was that Crosby could command more on the trade market for the Raiders than Micah Parsons did for the Dallas Cowboys last August. Parsons netted Dallas two first-round picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

That’s a steep asking price, but with the Lions in win-now mode, adding a premier pass rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson could be viewed as one of the missing links toward Detroit’s first Super Bowl berth.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared some of the intel that’s been gathered over Super Bowl LX week. Fowler listed the Lions among the “natural would-be contenders” to deal for Crosby:

What has been made clear to me: Crosby wants to be a part of a winner. That’s the priority. Whether and how that’s conveyed is still unclear. He has been fiercely loyal to Las Vegas. That loyalty will be tested more than ever in the coming weeks. The reality is the Raiders are still far away from significant winning, and the trade interest in Crosby is incredibly robust. In fact, I believe more than a dozen teams, possibly up to 20, will at least inquire with levels of serious intent. And there are some natural would-be contenders, including the Bills, Lions, 49ers, Cowboys and Ravens. – Jeremy Fowler, ESPN.

Fowler reports that Crosby has been busy rehabbing his injured knee that required postseason surgery and is focused on working to ready for the early portion of offseason programs. With the offseason in its early stages, Fowler noted that Crosby has not talked to the team since the season ended yet, so there hasn’t been an offseason trade request or talks of any sort.

But, Fowler described Crosby as close with Raiders owner Mark Davis and indicated that the pair will huddle up at some point soon along with new general manager John Spytek and new head coach Klint Kubiak to get a feel for where all parties are at moving forward.

Crosby has been incredibly loyal throughout his seven-year NFL career to the Raiders, but maybe he truly isn’t willing to wait on another rebuild in Las Vegas.

Crosby is a two-time All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowler and would arrive to whichever team dealt for him with four years of team control as he inked a three-year, $106.5 million extension with the Raiders in March of last year.

If the Lions dealt for Crosby, the 28-year-old would carry a 2026 cap hit of just over $30 million. In his career, Crosby has amassed 439 tackles (278 solo), 164 quarterback hits, 133 tackles for loss, 69.5 sacks, 29 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles, one interception in 110 games and 104 starts.
