PLATTSBURGH — James Bayer scored two goals and added an assist Saturday as Plattsburgh High skated to a 5-1 victory over Northeastern Clinton in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference hockey at the A-C North Arena.
Westen Studley, Cooper Holland and Ben Bezio also scored goals for the Hornets (9-5-2, 4-3).
Owen Chapple picked up the win in net, making 17 saves, and added an assist on Bayer’s third-period goal.
Cobe Lafountain scored the lone goal for the Cougars, and Greyson Lafountain had 25 saves in net.
“We caught NCCS with five players out of the line-up for them,” PHS coach Trevor Cameron said. “Our kids played hard and connected with one another. NCCS will return to near full strength for playoffs, and it’s possible we could play them again.
“I did see old bad habits surface in the third period. These can’t return for the remainder of the year. Taking long shifts is detrimental to our team’s identity.”

SARATOGA — Max Coryer recorded 36 saves on 38 shots on goal to get the victory in net and help give the Spartans (5-10) a split of non-conference games on the weekend.
“Coryer was excellent in net for us, especially in the second period when he denied a few grade-A scoring chances from in tight,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said.
Elliot Batty and Ryan Campbell each had a goal and two assists for Saranac, while Zane Vaughn and Brody Macomber added a goal apiece, with Macomber’s being an empty-net tally.
“Batty has been creating a lot of chances for us recently, so it was nice to see him get rewarded on the score sheet,” Knowles said.
“I thought we played pretty well from start to finish. We played really smart in the third period with a two-goal lead, making sure we were always in a good defensive posture and being strong on pucks to clear the zone. The shot tally might not indicate it, but I thought we did more than enough to deserve to win this game.”

GLENS FALLS — Jacob Wolf scored three goals and added an assist to lead the hosts past the Spartans in a non-league contest.
Gabe Moore and Adrian Barnes scored goals for Saranac, and Carson Holland had 31 saves in net.
“The results don’t show it, but I thought we played pretty well in the offensive zone,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said. “Their goalie made some big bail-out saves throughout the game.
“We made a couple coverage mistakes on their two second-period goals that allowed them to gain separation. They got a lot of pucks through to the net from the outside. We need to be better blocking shots and not allowing them to get through to our goaltender.”
