Jimmy Butler suffered a torn ACL on January 19. The Golden State Warriors forward will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, potentially spilling over into next season. However, on Monday, Feb. 9, Butler took the first major step in his recovery: he underwent surgery.
The Warriors confirmed the procedure had taken place via their PR account on X. The surgery was to reconstruct Butler’s torn ACL. The franchise noted that early indications project that the surgery was a success. He’s expected to begin rehabilitation imminently.
“Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler III, who suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on January 19 against the Miami Heat, underwent successful surgery earlier today in Los Angeles, the team announced today,” the Warriors statement read. “The surgery, a reconstruction of the torn ACL, was performed by Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. Butler III, who has missed the last nine (9) games, will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025-26 season and will begin rehabilitation immediately. He is expected to make a full recovery, and an update on his progress will be provided early next season.”
Butler joined the Warriors ahead of the 2025 trade deadline. He was a key piece of Steve Kerr’s rotation this season, suiting up for 38 games, averaging 20 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists on 51.9% shooting from the field and 37.6% from deep. Losing Butler is a big blow to Golden State’s chances of success this season.
However, the franchise will undoubtedly hope that once Butler returns to the rotation next season, he can play a sizeable role in the team challenging for a championship.
