One of the most viral moments of the 2026 Winter Olympics came Tuesday at the men’s biathlon event — but it wasn’t very related to the action itself.
After winning bronze, Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid told reporters in a bizarre, emotional interview that he was “having the worst week of his life” because he told his girlfriend that he had an affair.
Now, as of Wednesday, Laegreid’s girlfriend has reportedly responded to his viral comments about his infidelity.

Who is Sturla Holm Laegreid’s girlfriend?
Sturla Holm Laegreid’s girlfriend remains anonymous, as she chose not to reveal her identity in an interview with Norwegian outlet Verdens Gang (VG).
However, she did give some insight into how she felt about Laegreid’s very public confession to his infidelity.
“It’s hard to forgive. Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world,” she wrote to VG, translated to English, per People. “I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this.”
The woman also told VG that she grateful “to my family and friends who have embraced me and supported me during this time” and “everyone else who has thought of me and sympathized, without knowing who I am,” per People.

Moments after he won a bronze medal at the Olympics, Laegreid was speaking to the Norwegian Broadcasting Company (NRK) that he had just recently told his girlfriend of his affair.
“There is something I want to share with someone who may not be watching today,” Laegreid said as transcribed by The Guardian. “Half a year ago I met the love of my life. The world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.”
Laegreid also said he had ” the gold medal in life” and “I wish I could share this with her.”
The interview was in Norwegian, but has been translated to English as it’s gone viral.
“I try to be a good role model and I did something stupid,” Leagrid said, as transcribed by The Guardian. “I got a nice video from the club at home and I used that as motivation today. As I said I want to be a good role model but I have to admit when I get something wrong. You have to admit when you do something you can’t stand for and hurt someone you love so much.”
