The New York Giants have made some moves inside their front office, and while Joe Schoen is still the team’s general manager, things are not looking bright for his future with the franchise.
Schoen told the media that he and incoming head coach John Harbaugh would “work together,” and that was “the only way it’s going to work,” immediately after Harbaugh’s introductory press conference. But now, the Giants have brought in Dawn Aponte as the Senior Vice President of Football Operations and Strategy, and she has assumed much of the responsibility you’d expect Schoen to have.
Yikes: Giants GM Joe Schoen has “basically been relegated to handling scouting” and people in the building now report to VP of Football Operations Dawn Aponte, per @PLeonardNYDN

“Harbaugh was heavily involved in the hiring of the NFL’s chief administrative officer, Dawn Aponte, as the Giants’ senior VP of football operations and strategy. She’ll oversee analytics, salary-cap management, and player contract negotiations. As another sign of Harbaugh’s considerable influence in the organization, Aponte will report to him,” The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor wrote.
In addition, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported that Schoen has seen a significant reduction in his duties, and now does not report directly to Harbaugh – signaling both a significant demotion in all but his title, and that his tenure with the Giants may not end up lasting as long as he had hoped.
