When Elana Meyers Taylor won gold for the first time at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she immediately thought about her husband, Nic Taylor, and their two kids, Nico and Noah.

After seeing the results of the women’s monobob race on Feb. 16, she embraced her sons, who are both deaf, and signed to them, “Mommy won!”

Elana later gave her children a shout-out for their constant support during her intense training. “They’ve been with me every step of the way,” she told NBC’s Mike Tirico. “It was a late night for them, so just having them there meant so much to me.”

The most decorated female bobsledder of all time has also had encouragement from her husband, who is a former Olympian bobsledder himself.

“I still can’t believe it,” Elana told PEOPLE about the special moment “It’s surreal.”

Here’s everything to know about Elana Meyers Taylor’s family, including husband, Nic Taylor, and their two sons.

Like his wife, Nic is an Olympian, who was a member of the U.S. bobsled team.

After excelling in track and field during college, Nic transitioned to bobsledding and first competed at a major competition in 2011, according to his alma mater California State University, Northridge.

Elana and Nic later competed together at the 2016–17 Bobsleigh World Cup in a four-person event, per his bio.

Today, Nic is also a doctor of chiropractic and professional speaker, as mentioned on his Instagram.

Elana and Nic first met over the phone.

Nic, who had been a track athlete, was interested in bobsledding, and he called the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation with questions. At the time, Elana was an intern and she answered his call.

“I ended up staying on the phone with her for the rest of the day. It was the strangest thing,” Nic told USA Today in January 2013. “I wasn’t sure what she looked like or who she was at all.”

He recalled that she “sounded surprisingly nice. She was having the best day. She was excited to be alive. I just wanted to keep on talking to her.”

During their initial conversation, Elana said she “thought this guy was pretty nice. I wasn’t even thinking about dating. I was focusing on the season. I just thought this was a cool new friend.”

According to USA Today, they started dating days after Nic arrived in Lake Placid for training in the fall of 2011.

At the 2013 World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland, Elana won the silver medal in the two-woman bobsled event. The medaling ceremony was even more memorable for Elana because Nic proposed to her while she was on the podium.

“It was such a shock,” Elana told USA Today about Nic’s surprise proposal. “It was amazing.”

Elana and Nic married in April 2014, and even incorporated bobsledding into their wedding ceremony.

“When they gave their personal vows, a lot of the audience probably didn’t understand,” Elana’s Olympic teammate Jazmine Fenlator told NBC Sports. “It was a lot of bobsled and training innuendos. You know, I’ll stand with you whenever you’re gluten-free and dairy-free, which is the nutrition plan when we’re in season.”

Jazmine added that the couple ended their vows by saying, “Now let’s go have some fun,” and gave each other high-fives — something Elana does with her team before they start their races.

Elana and Nic are parents of two sons.

Their firstborn Nico arrived in 2020 and he was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and hearing loss, per NBC Olympics. The pair later welcomed their son Noah in 2022 and he was also born deaf.

“Having Nico, like, that reinvigorated me,” Elana told Olympics.com in March 2025. “Knowing he had disabilities [motivated me] to kind of show him, like, his mom is strong and his mom can overcome obstacles. If I could do that, so could he.”

Elana and her family are learning American Sign Language (ASL) and simultaneous communication — SimCom — to speak with her sons, per NBC Bay Area.

“Being a mom to two deaf kids is it’s kind of crazy in the sense that when they’re born, you’re told that you need to learn a whole new language to be able to communicate with your child,” she revealed to NBC Sports. “It’s like walking into this brand new world that you never really knew existed.”

Elana’s two sons were there when she won her gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, even if it was “past their bedtime,” as she told The Athletic. “But to have them here and share that moment with them at the bottom, it was really cool.”

For Elana, as an athlete and a mom, winning gold is “everything, and it’s nothing — because in six days, I’ve got school pick-up in the middle of Texas,” she explained.
