Iowa women's basketball on the rise again in AP Top 25 rankings

While Iowa women’s basketball (20-5, 11-3 Big Ten) was in the opening quarter of the eventual 80-67 win at Nebraska, the Hawkeyes received excellent news regarding their placement in the latest AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll.

In Iowa’s lone game of the week, a 65-56 home win over No. 25 Washington, sophomore guard Chit-Chat Wright paved the Hawkeyes way to victory with 21 points on 6-for-13 shooting, 5-for-8 from 3-point territory, and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line in her 38 minutes of action. Senior forward Hannah Stuelke notched her seventh double-double of the season and the 18th of her career with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

As a result of their Top 25 victory, Iowa moved up two spots to No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll.

In addition to Iowa, six other Big Ten squads are in the updated top 25. UCLA is ranked No. 2, followed by No. 6 Michigan, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 14 Maryland, No. 18 Michigan State, and No. 23 Minnesota.

Washington (22 votes) and Illinois (2 votes) are among the programs vying for recognition in the receiving votes category.

With Iowa’s Feb. 16 rout of Nebraska already in the books, the Hawkeyes will have two other matchups this week to boost their ranking. The next contest for Iowa will be a road game at Purdue (12-13, 4-10 Big Ten) on Feb. 19, followed by a massive Top 15 showdown against Michigan on Feb. 22 for Senior Day at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
