No. 13/NR Florida State swimming and diving won an ACC title, two bronze medals and set a school record on day three of the 2026 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships:
The men’s 200 medley relay won gold in the first swimming event of the championship. Two divers, redshirt senior Kayleigh Clark and sophomore Carlos Vargas won bronze on platform to conclude three days of diving competition.
Swimming began with the championship-winning 200 medley relay. The men’s team of seniors Max Wilson and Tommaso Baravelli, sophomore Michel Arkhangelsky and senior Sam Bork took home gold in with a time of 1:22.28. It is FSU’s first ACC Championships win in the event since 2020.
The women’s squad of sophomore Alice Velden, senior Julia Mansson and sophomores Maryn McDade and Mary Leigh Hardman placed eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.73.
The day opened with platform, where Clark and Vargas both advanced to finals out of prelims. Clark was second overall in prelims with a score of 316.80, while Vargas delivered an amazing comeback, finishing eighth after prelims with 316.35. In the championship final, Clark earned her first career ACC medal, scoring 306.30 points to take bronze. Vargas recorded a personal-best 367.15 on the platform in the final to also earn bronze.
This was the first time since 2017 that Florida State had both a male and female diver medal at the ACC Championships. That 2017 championship also featured a pair of FSU platform medalists.
The Seminoles also competed in the 800 free relay on Tuesday, where freshman Ioana Stirbu set a Florida State record on the opening leg in the 200 freestyle, breaking a mark that had stood since Kaitlyn Dressel set it in 2015. Stirbu, Hardman and seniors Mika Heideyer and Sophie Freeman finished 11th in the relay. The men’s 800 freestyle relay team of juniors Gustav Olsson and Andrew Rich, senior Utku Kurtdere and sophomore Logan Robinson placed sixth, touching the wall at 6:11.74.
The Seminoles will return to the pool Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET for prelims in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle, with finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Florida State men’s golf is in fourth place after the second round of the Watersound Invitational on Tuesday:
FSU was led by Jack Bigham on Tuesday, who finished the round 3-under, 67, climbing to 23rd place at 1-under, 139 for the tournament. Bigham opened the round with three birdies on his first nine holes and finished the day with five.
Tyler Weaver, Carson Brewer, and Jack Whaley all turned in even, 70 rounds. Weaver and Brewer are tied for 14th place, leading the team at 3-under, 167. Whaley is tied for 31st and is even, 140.
After a slow start to the day on the first three holes, Weaver bounced back and carded three birdies and was one of eight players in the field who carded a three on the par four, 467-yard, 18th hole.
Brewer carded back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 and finished the day with three total. Whaley also saw four birdies throughout his round.
Playing individually, Wilmer Edero finished the day 1-under, 69, climbing to even, 140 and is tied for 31st along with Whaley. Drew Jones carded a round of 1-over, 71 and is 4-over, 144 for the tournament and tied for 51st along with Patrick McCann.
The final round at the Third Golf Course at the Watersound club will begin at 11 a.m. ET with a shotgun start on Wednesday. Live scoring will run through Clippd.
FSU women’s golf finished in 12th at the Moon Invitational, with sophomore Sophia Fullbrook carding her first career hole-in-one:
Fullbrook’s hole-in-one was the first by a Seminole since October 11, 2022 when Charlotte Heath aced hole No. 10 at the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J during match play in the Ivy Intercollegiate.
Auburn played the only under par round of golf in the third round and rallied to win the team championship. The Tigers shot a 6-under par team score in the final round and surpassed Texas A&M to finish in first place in the team standings. Vanessa Borovilos of Texas A&M finished with scores of 70-68-71 for a three-round total of 219 to claim the individual.
Freshman Haruhi Nakatani led the Seminoles as she finished in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings with scores of 71-76-71 for a three-round total of four over par 218. She carded four birdies as she finished under par in two of three rounds during the tournament.
Fullbrook finished in a tie for 20th place in the individual standings with scores of 74-74-72 for a three round total of 6 over par, 220. She played her best golf of the championship with two birdies and her hole-in-one as she finished 1 under par on her final back nine of the championship.
Fullbrook, who is currently ranked 45th nationally in the Scoreboard by Clipp’d rankings, now has three eagles and one hole-in-one on her Florida State resume. She earned her most recent eagle on January 30 in the first round of the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club.
Florida State is back on the course at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (March 2-4) at the Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head Island. The Seminoles play host to the jewel of their schedule – the Florida State Match-Up – at the Seminoles Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee (March 20-22).
