No. 24 Texas A&M (7-0) remains undefeated after sweeping Penn, capping off the impressive weekend with a 7-1 win on Saturday afternoon, as the dramatic comeback victories on Friday and Saturday, led by sophomore Sawyer’s Farr’s timely hitting and patience at the plate, the Aggie offense finally looked the part after scoring just three runs in the first two games.
Second-year head coach Michael Earley, who entered the year on choppy waters after the Aggies missed the postseason for the first time in nearly 20 years, was visibly frustrated with his team’s performance at the plate, especially in Game 2 after striking out 17 times. Looking much more aggressive, the Aggies recorded nine hits, led by freshman third baseman Nico Partida’s three hits, including his third home run of the season.
On the injury front, Texas A&M was without star hitters Caden Sorrell, Chris Hacopian, and, due to a reported lower-body injury, Wesley Jordan, who missed his first game of the season, should return on Tuesday against Lamar, as Michael Earley did not state that Jordan is “day-to-day,” similar to Sorrell and Hacopian.
Starting pitcher Aiden Sims was highly impressive on the mound, lasting seven innings while striking out ten, both career highs for the sophomore RHP. Veteran reliever Josh Stewart finished the game with a strikeout and one hit allowed, as the 2026 pitching staff looks like a predominant strength through two weeks of play.
Before hosting Lamar on Tuesday night, here is Michael Earley’s postgame press conference after Sunday’s 7-1 win.
