There seems to be no reason to continue entertaining extended conversations about a Maxx Crosby trade to the Philadelphia Eagles. But we can all think of three without utilizing much effort. First, even though smoke never leads to fire with these types of ideas, they’re sometimes interesting. Second. Well, this one is obvious. Come on. It’s Maxx Crosby!
The third is related more to boredom than anything else. The Super Bowl has long wrapped up. At the time this story was released, the NFL Combine hadn’t started yet. So, here we go again. The Eagles can’t really land this guy, can they? There’s one huge reason why it seems there’s no chance this will happen.
NFL insiders discuss the Eagles’ chances of landing Maxx Crosby and the possible asking price.
Sometimes, who said something is more important than what was said. We’ve ignored most of what people have said about this, but then Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo found their way into the chart. Schefter is ESPN’s top NFL voice. Garafolo is one of the top league insiders on NFL Network. If they’re still talking about the Eagles and Crosby, we should at least mention what they said.
Garafolo recently appeared on The Anthony Gargano Show. He was asked if the Eagles were a realistic landing spot.
“Big time… Big time… If this thing opens up and everybody is a player, I mean, listen, they tried to trade for Micah Parsons in the division, right? Why wouldn’t they then be considered a strong contender for a team that would be like, ‘Yeah, get him out of the conference.’ I would certainly put the Eagles top-three, top-five, whatever for a Maxx Crosby if and when this thing opens up. And I do believe this thing is going to open up.”
Schefter is a weekly guest on 97.5 The Fanatic’s Kincade and Salciunas show. He was also asked if there was any chance that the Eagles were realistic suitors. His response wasn’t quite as definitive, but he also offered something the Garafolo didn’t: an asking price.
Don’t get excited. It’s probably similar to what most would have said if asked the same question.
“I was told that the Raiders don’t want to trade [Maxx Crosby], and if they even contemplated it, then it would take a Micah Parsons type package. That’s what I was told. Do I think they are getting two firsts and a player, no. Do I think they want to trade him, no. Do I think he’ll be traded like AJ Brown [could be], that’ll change by the week… Any deal involving Maxx Crosby, I would think for the Raiders to make that deal, would take a first round pick at minimum”.
Okay, let’s get something straight because this is important. We’ve done all of this speculation, and no one took the time to weigh the most important part? No one took the time to investigate whether or not the Raiders were actively shopping him? So, what does that mean? It appears that we’re back at square one, right? Most Eagles enthusiasts would welcome Maxx Crosby. Everyone points to one reason why it will never happen.
The price tag…
It seems the Eagles simply don’t have the cap space to make serious moves of this magnitude. Then, there are the other moving parts. He’s signed through 2029, four more seasons if you’re keeping count. He represents a massive $35.7 million cap hit next season.
