Sergio Perez is returning to the grid this year, joining Cadillac as the team prepares for its first season in Formula 1.
His time with Red Bull included highlights like his win at Monaco in 2022, but the partnership ended when both sides grew frustrated with each other.
Now with a new team, Perez is looking to show he still has plenty to offer. His testing performances have drawn some criticism, but there’s hope that he’ll find his rhythm once the season starts in Australia.
At 36, Perez is one of the more experienced drivers on the grid and faces the challenge of competing against a younger generation. Still, he believes he can help lead Cadillac’s early success.
Perez looks forward to Cadillac debut and sets clear goals for the season
Speaking on the Back at Base podcast, Sergio Perez discussed his year away from F1 and how he plans to adjust this season.
Outlining what he wants from his time with Cadillac, Perez was clear that he expects quick progress and is determined to go all in with the team.
“Once you step out of it and you see it from the outside, you have learned a lot of things. For example, when you are in it, you tend to worry a lot of things that are not representative for the public,” Perez said. “When you have a bad race, you think the world is over. The highs and lows of the sport are extreme. Nothing is going to change on the outside. Just keep enjoying it…”
“Yeah, I definitely want to go all the way with this team. I want to enjoy the journey with them, and I want to see progress quickly. This is what I’m here for.”
Valtteri Bottas approaches Cadillac debut as ‘fresh start’ in F1
Across the garage, Perez’s Cadillac teammate Valtteri Bottas is also looking to reset, treating his first season with the team as a chance to reset and approach the sport with a new mindset.
“It’s like a comeback. I’ve really approached the sport now with a different view of the sport, with more respect to the sport, more respect to the staff or the team members.”
Bottas has his sights set on making this season one of personal growth: “I want to make it the best season I’ve had, personally. I want to give it all to myself, but first of all to the team. So if I can finish next year with a feeling that there was nothing I could have done better, that is a good goal.”
