The San Francisco 49ers are set to lose several wide receivers at the start of the new league year, including Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, Skyy Moore and Trent Taylor.
With that knowledge, San Francisco should be looking to add veterans through free agency or trade, as well as rookies in the upcoming NFL draft. The 49ers are already preparing for the seven-round selection meeting, as they met with Clemson’s Antonio Williams at the 2026 NFL combine.
After confirming the meeting, Williams broke down how he felt it went.
“It went well,” he said. “Obviously, I have a lot of respect for what they do and what they’re about. I can see my game mixing in really well with those guys. (Kyle) Shanahan and Mr. Lynch, he’s a great guy and a great role model. I have a lot of respect for him and his time as a player, and then transitioning to the GM role.
“I had a really good meeting with them. We’ll see what happens.”
Williams also said that he’s familiar with the 49ers system, especially one aspect of Shanahan’s offensive gameplans.
“I’m just familiar with the way of ‘No Block, No Rock,'” he said. “Getting your nose in there is kind of the reason that I tried to make that shift in my mindset this year in my blocking game and in the run game. All of the cool ways he can set plays up out of that. At the end of the day, it’s about helping your brothers.”
The 21-year-old was a four-star recruit out of Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina, before committing to Clemson for the 2022 season. Over the last four years, the 5-foot-11 wideout caught 208 passes for 2,336 yards and 21 touchdowns in 42 games while earning All-ACC honors twice (first team in 2024 and third team in 2025).
Williams, who also helped return kicks for the Tigers, is projected to go in the first or second round, so San Francisco would have to use an early pick on him, but it might be worth it.
