USC men’s basketball’s season ends with collapse at Big Ten Tournament

Following a disappointing end to the regular season, the USC men’s basketball team traveled to Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament. On Wednesday, the Trojans opened up tournament action with a second round matchup against Washington.

As it turns out, the Trojans’ stay in Chicago was a brief one. USC blew a double-digit second half lead before ultimately falling 83-79 in overtime, eliminating the Trojans from the Big Ten Tournament and ending their season.

It was an extremely fitting end to the season for USC. During the year, the Trojans had numerous blown second half leads that turned victories into losses. If USC were able to hold on and win even a few of those games, the season could have turned out very different.

The collapse was also representative of the Trojans’ season as a whole. A month ago, USC was 18-6 and looked like an NCAA Tournament team. However, USC fell apart down the stretch, dropping its final eight games and finished nowhere near the March Madness field.

As a result, the Trojans will miss the tournament for the third year in a row, including the second in a row under head coach Eric Musselman. This upcoming offseason will be a fascinating one for USC, with far more questions than answers at the moment.
