Texas A&M will enter the 2026 season under third-year coach Mike Elko in an interesting spot after finishing the 2025 campaign 11-2 and 7-1 in SEC play, culminating in the Aggies first appearance in the College Football Playoff, only to fall 10-3 at home against eventual runner-up Miami. However, many, including myself, believe this is just the start of what’s to come in College Station.
Knowing that redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed will return as the program’s starting signal caller, Elko and new QB coach Joey Lynch will be focused on working out the remaining issues the Tennessee native dealt with last season, focused on his mindset in the pocket, especially when facing tougher defenses that takes much quicker processing and a lack of hesitation to deliver accurate throws in tight windows.
After throwing for a career high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, Reed’s natural skillset as a dual-threat athlete is hard to ignore for anyone who takes the time to watch his film, especially his most complete performances during the 2025 season against LSU, Missouri, and, especially, Texas A&M’s memorable comeback win over South Carolina.
This week, college football analyst Landon Tengwell released a 20-minute breakdown of Marcel Reed’s play from the 2025 season, praising his running ability while noting his impressive arm strength, which has been oddly criticized due to past accuracy issues.
However, Reed’s ability to go through his reads and make the right decision on key downs, as opposed to staring down his first read, and making a predictable throw. Still, even during the first round loss to Miami, Reed made several impressive throws, and despite throwing two interceptions, provides the coaching staff plenty to work with, and hopefully, fix in the coming months.
Well worth the watch, here is Tengwell’s full breakdown of Marcel Reed.
