The Milwaukee Brewers have come out of the gates firing on all cylinders, posting a record of 8-2 following their win over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. This dominance can be seen in Milwaukee’s batting numbers, ranking in the top four in the league for batting average (.271), on-base percentage (.376), slugging percentage (.437), and OPS (.813).
Just as their production from the batter’s box has been on point, so has their pitching staff, with the Brewers maintaining a team ERA of 3.44, which places them in the top ten teams in the league for the metric, but it appears that their pitching core is set to take a hit.
Jared Koenig’s sprained UCL is a “big concern,” Pat Murphy says, though the initial read is that it can be treated with rehab. Best case is he’s back in 2-4 weeks.

As reported by MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, Milwaukee is set to lose reliever Jared Koenig to a sprained left elbow ligament, which will place him on the 15-day IL. Koenig has had limited run time this season, appearing in three matches in which he has pitched for 2.1 innings, striking out four batters in that time period.
These are performances that the Brewers have expected from the veteran reliever, given his 15-5 record with the NL Central contenders going into this season, posting an ERA of 2.67 and a SO9 of 9.2.
What’s next for Koenig and the Brewers?
It appears that both Koenig and Milwaukee are aiming to get through this injury without undergoing surgery, according to McCalvy, which would ultimately mean even more time off the field if they had to go in that other direction.
In the meantime, the Brewers have called up Shane Drohan from their Triple-A affiliate, the Nashville Sounds. In his only appearance with Nashville this season, Drohan allowed four walks and two earned runs across 3.1 innings of work.
While the 27-year-old has been a starter for the majority of his time in the minor leagues, it’s not known if he’ll get a spot in the Brewers’ rotation or simply take the spot of the aforementioned Koenig in the bullpen.
