Carolina Panthers wideout Xavier Legette is not going to ride out the storm this afternoon.
Legette is inactive for today’s NFC South showdown against the Atlanta Falcons due to a hamstring injury. The second-year receiver was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable for the contest on the final injury report.
Head coach Dave Canales has not shown a lack of faith in the 2024 first-round pick, who amassed just eight receiving yards on four catches in the team’s first two games.
“I believe in Xavier,” Canales told reporters this past Monday. “This is a guy that I truly believe—because of the way he’s wired, the way that he works at it, the way that he continues to train.
“He had a great week of practice. He played better. He had some opportunities on the field where the ball didn’t go his way. I tried to get him a few early touches. They didn’t amount to much. But as the game kinda went on, a few of the other targets—they were close plays. He didn’t make ’em. But I think it’s a matter of just finding opportunities.
“I believe in him, I believe that he’s approached this the right way and just continues to work. I’m gonna continue to encourage him and be in his corner and push him to keep striving for that and keep working on his chemistry with Bryce [Young].”
Carolina is also hoping there’s chemistry between Young and his new pair of starting offensive linemen, center Cade Mays and right guard Chandler Zavala. They are expected to start, respectively, in place of Austin Corbett (MCL) and Robert Hunt (biceps)—who have been placed on injured reserve.
Fourth-year veteran Brandon Walton was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday to provide depth on the weakened offensive line.
