Inter Milan 2-1 Sassuolo: What We Learned From ‘Dominant’ & ‘Wasteful’ Serie A Victory

Inter Milan returned to winning ways in Serie A with a hard-earned 2-1 home triumph against Sassuolo last night.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri won unconvincingly after a reassuring display against Ajax.

Victory was imperative after Cristian Chivu’s side suffered back-to-back defeats to Udinese and Juventus.

Indeed, with Napoli six points clear before the kick-off, Inter desperately needed a win against the top-flight newcomers.

Despite taking an early lead through Federico Dimarco, the Nerazzurri had to survive a late scare to take three points.

Inter dominated possession and amassed 20 shots on goal, yet they could only find the net twice.

Furthermore, the second goal was Tarik Muharemovic’s own goal.

Therefore, Inter lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, with Marcus Thuram and Francesco Pio Esposito failing to deliver.

Despite joining the fray midway through the second half, Lautaro Martinez couldn’t beat Arijanet Muric.

Meanwhile, Cristian Chivu wants Inter to be more ‘cynical’ in defense. Yet, they only made 15 fouls, often lacking the aggression needed to disrupt Sassuolo’s rhythm.
