The Atlanta Falcons have released veteran cornerback C.J. Henderson from the practice squad, the team announced shortly after head coach Raheem Morris’ Monday press conference. Henderson reportedly had several suitors before opting to sign with the Falcons back in August.
However, the former top 10 pick was released ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline and later signed with Atlanta’s practice squad. Henderson did not play in a regular season game for the Falcons this season. He last appeared in 12 games for the Carolina Panthers back in 2023.
Henderson was originally selected ninth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 NFL draft out of Florida. The 26-year-old was drafted just seven spots ahead of Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell, but he hasn’t had the same success.
Over four NFL seasons, Henderson has appeared in 49 games (32 starts), recording three interceptions and 16 passes defended. The Falcons were blown out, 30-0, by Henderson’s former team on Sunday. While many things went wrong in Week 3, the team may once again be looking for a new kicker.
Parker Romo missed both of his attempts on Sunday. Head coach Raheem Morris said the Falcons would bring in some competition for Romo this week. The team may have released Henderson to open up another spot for a kicker.
