Doug Meacham named interim coach at Oklahoma State, per report

Doug Meacham will take over as interim coach at Oklahoma State, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.  

This comes after Mike Gundy was fired on Tuesday after more than two decades at the helm for the Cowboys. The second-longest tenured FBS coach departs Stillwater after a steady decline over the past two seasons.

Meacham, a former OSU player and assistant, returned to the program as offensive coordinator during the offseason. He replaced Kasey Dunn, who was fired after five seasons at OSU. Meacham was with TCU for the past three years and helped the team to the national title game in 2022. He twice held a coordinator role at TCU under coach Gary Patterson and held coordinator stints at both Kansas and Houston. 

A standout offensive lineman and teammate of Gundy’s at Oklahoma State from 1985 to 1987, Meacham was also an assistant for him from 2005 to 2012.

Oklahoma State went 3-9, including going winless in Big 12 play last season. The rough patch became the downslide for Gundy, who agreed to a restructured contract with the school months before getting fired. Oklahoma State is currently 1-2 in 2025 with the conference slate on the Horizon. 

Gundy will be paid a flat $15 million buyout, per the terms of his contract.
