Tuesday's top performers for Monroe County Region sports

ERIE – Erie Mason and Summerfield took home the trophies.

Mason’s boys and Summerfield’s girls were the winners in the second Tri-County Conference cross country jamboree of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Summerfield’s girls had a tight battle, scoring 41 points to nip Sand Creek by 4. The Bulldogs had four of the top six runners with Makenzie Wolfe, Allison Ost, Grace Raymond and Abby Raymond placing 2-3-5-6.

Whiteford, which took third place with 52, had the individual champ as Braelynn Chiotti ran 22:04.88.

Her teammates Briar Wing and Molly Fojtik were fourth and 12th, respectively.

Fourth-place Mason went 13-14-15-16 with Kate Otting, Riley England, Jaelynn Horton and Alexis Colburn.

Mason’s boys were dominant, with 17 points as Joseph Colaluca won in 17:46.07 and teammates Caleb Healey (2), David Mills (3), Porter Ravary (5), Weston Albring (6), Brayden Hincher (8) and Jackson Carner (10) all cracked the Top 10.

“The boys are working hard to close any gaps in the pack,” Mason coach Alison Meisner said. “They have trained hard together for a long time and have some goals they are shooting for. “

Grant Rasor claimed fourth for third-place Whiteford and Colin Brown’s 14th was the top showing for fourth-place Summerfield.

TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMANCES

VOLLEYBALL

Maddie Salenbien, Dundee: Led with 12 kills and 5 blocks during a 25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22 triumph over Hudson. Lilly Motylinksi (9 kills), Ella Fowler (25 assists), Leah Evans (16 digs) were other leaders.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Katelyn Rutkowski, SMCC: Took a third and a fourth as the Kestrels fell 139-40 to Gibraltar Carlson and 145-37 to Grosse Ile.

BOYS SOCCER

Brandt Dyer, State Line Christian: Recorded his fifth shutout of the season as State Line blanked Fremont Temple Christian 2-0. Ian Hendrix and Jacob Baker scored the goals and Brady Holmes recorded an assist for the 9-3-1 Patriots.  

GIRLS GOLF

Nora Kinsey, Lauren Tolliver and Graelyn Carter, SMCC: Shot the three lowest rounds of the day – 47, 48 and 51, respectively, to lead the Kestrels to a round of 204 which topped Riverview’s 216 and Airport’s 220. Raegan Budzios tied for third and Liv Tilley was sixth for Airport with 52.

Ava Thornton and Teresa Tomaszewski, Milan: Each shot 57 to lead a 235-248 victory over New Boston Huron. The medalist was Huron’s Ava Bossick with 54.

Ashken Aaron, Monroe: Shot a medalist round of 46 to lead the Trojans past Saline 204-207 at Carrington Golf Club. Jennah Cadle added a 51, Carolyn Lavoy 53 and Gracie Gottschalk 54.

Sophie Kops, Bedford: Carded a 50 as the Mules finished between Dexter and Ypsilanti Lincoln in a Southeastern Conference Red tri at Bedford Hills.
