Just three days before hosting the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys signed a former Packers cornerback to the team’s practice squad.
According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the Cowboys signed cornerback and special teamer Corey Ballentine to the practice squad on Thursday. The Packers and Cowboys will face off from AT&T Stadium on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 4.
Could Ballentine, who played three seasons with the Packers between 2022 and 2024 and returned to Green Bay for training camp, provide some trade secrets for Dallas leading into Sunday night? Brian Schottenheimer’s team has 72 hours to extract as much information as possible.
It’s possible the Cowboys will need Ballentine to be elevated and play snaps — starting cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland and backup Trikweze Bridges are all dealing with injuries this week.
Ballentine played in 37 games with the Packers, including six as a starter at cornerback during Joe Barry’s final year as defensive coordinator in 2023. Last season, Ballentine played only 73 snaps at cornerback for Jeff Hafley but was a core special teamer for Rich Bisaccia, playing 195 snaps on special teams.
The Packers brought back Ballentine on Aug. 4, released him at final cuts and did not return him to the practice squad to open the season, but he will know details of Hafley’s defense and Bisaccia’s special teams.
Ballentine played in one game with the New England Patriots this season, logging 20 special teams snaps. He was released by the Patriots on Tuesday.
