Terence “Bud” Crawford has been enjoying quite a rise to his profile since his September 13 win over Canelo Alvarez, but this weekend’s headlines were probably not what he had in mind.
Crawford, whose birthday was Sunday, was held at gunpoint and handcuffed before being released without charges in a traffic stop in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

Omaha PD and the city’s Mayor’s office are both promising an internal review of the traffic stop, which Mayor John Ewing says will be “thorough and transparent.”
Crawford was reportedly “driving recklessly,” and there were firearms observed in the vehicle, though it was later made clear that everyone in the car was licensed to carry. A supervisor and lieutenant did report to the scene when Crawford requested their presence.
There had been a parade in Omaha earlier, celebrating Crawford’s win over Alvarez.
The 38-year-old Crawford (42-0, 31 KO) defeated Alvarez by unanimous decision to become undisputed super middleweight world champion.
