The Milwaukee area’s top teams are distancing themselves from the pack as the playoff picture and conference races begin to narrow in Week 7 of the WIAA high school football season.
Blowouts for Catholic Memorial, Franklin, Homestead, Muskego, Slinger and Sussex Hamilton solidified their standing among our area top 10, as well as their status as conference leaders. Our lone top 10 matchup was as close as their placement in our rankings as Arrowhead vs. Mukwonago went to overtime. Here is how the Oct. 3 finals shook out this week.
1. Franklin (7-0)
The Sabers earned their third shutout in conference play this year, winning 49-0 over Kenosha Tremper at home. Next: at Kenosha Indian Trail, Oct. 10.
2. Muskego (6-1)
Muskego stayed unbeaten in conference play with a 43-7 win over Kettle Moraine. Next: vs. Oconomowoc, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
3. Homestead (7-0)
Homestead did its part to set up a battle of the final two undefeated teams in North Shore play next week, beating Cedarburg on the road, 44-6. Next: vs. Slinger, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
4. Arrowhead (6-1)
Jacob Siner rushed for the game-winning score in overtime of a 26-23 win after George Molitor connected with Max Baehman for a 41-yard touchdown with just under 4:30 to play in regulation to tie things at 20. Next: vs. Sussex Hamilton, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
5. Mukwonago (5-2)
An early 10-0 lead gave way to a second-half collapse against Arrowhead as Mukwonago dropped its first conference game to fall into a tie with the Warhawks for second in the Classic 8. Next: at Waukesha West, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
6. Catholic Memorial (6-1)
CMH moved a game closer to clinching an outright Parkland title with a 49-14 win at home over New Berlin Eisenhower to move to 5-0 in league play. Next: at Wauwatosa East, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
7. Grafton (6-0)
Grafton’s scheduled game against Milwaukee Lutheran was moved to 1 p.m. on Oct. 4. Next: vs. Greendale, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
8. Sussex Hamilton (6-1)
A Hamilton team that had yet to reach 50 points in a game exploded for a 73-0 victory over Menomonee Falls at home to keep pace with Marquette for the Greater Metro lead. Next: at Arrowhead, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
9. Slinger (6-1)
The Owls kept it rolling against winless West Bend East at home, winning 49-0. Next: at Homestead, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
10. New Berlin West (6-1)
The Vikings made it three games in a row scoring at least 40 points as they handled business at Waukesha South in a 42-29 win. Next: vs. Wauwatosa West, 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
