On Saturday, football fans got scary news when it was reported that former USC quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed Friday night in Indianapolis. Now working as an NFL broadcaster for Fox, Sanchez was in town to call Sunday’s Las Vegas Raiders-Indianapolis Colts game. Fortunately, it was revealed shortly later that Sanchez is now in stable condition and is recovering in the hospital.
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” Fox Sports said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez played at USC from 2005-2008. In his lone season as the starter in 2008, he threw for 3,207 yards and 34 touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a 12-1 record, a Pac-10 title, and a Rose Bowl victory over Penn State.
“The USC Football community sends our support to Mark and his family,” the team wrote on social media following the news.
The New York Jets selected Sanchez with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He went on to have an up-and-down 10-year career in the league before retiring and getting into broadcasting.
