Gassama affair – Algeria: Saleh Bey Aboud tells all!
Algeria: Saleh Bey Aboud lifts the veil on the Gassama affair!
The former communications director of the Algerian national team, Saleh Bey Aboud, has revisited one of the most painful chapters in Algerian football: the Greens’ elimination at the hands of Cameroon during the 2022 World Cup playoffs. As a guest on the Algerian channel El Watania TV, he made powerful statements that have reopened a still-raw wound for supporters.
“Gassama played a significant role in the national team’s elimination; it was a scenario planned even before his arrival in Algeria,” Aboud declared,
hinting at a degree of premeditation in the decisions made by the renowned Gambian referee. He also cited other incidents to underscore his suspicions:
“At a time when VAR didn’t exist, France qualified for the World Cup thanks to Thierry Henry’s handball goal, knocking out Ireland.”
Confident that history will eventually reveal the truth, Saleh Bey Aboud concluded with a grave warning:
“Whatever happens, the truth will come out, and we will know who conspired against the national team.”
These remarks have reignited a sensitive debate over a match that continues to haunt the memory of Algerian football.
