Manchester City forward Erling Haaland set another scoring record after breaking the deadlock against Brentford on Sunday evening.
The GTech Community Stadium observed a minute’s silence ahead of the 16:30 UK kick-off to honour the victims of Thursday’s terror attack on a synagogue in Greater Manchester that took the lives of two and injured at least four others.
Haaland opened the scoring nine minutes into kick-off after being played in by Josko Gvardiol, beating a couple of challenges from the Brentford defence and slamming the ball home past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Norwegian has been in scintillating form this season and has been seemingly unfazed by the notable departure of Manchester City’s long-serving architect-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne, who joined Napoli on a free transfer in June.
Haaland took his tally to 11 goals for the 2025-26 season in midweek with a brace against AS Monaco in a 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw, though Eric Dier’s injury-time penalty salvaged a point for the Ligue 1 side at Stade Louis II.
However, Haaland picked up right where he left off on the French Riviera as he slotted home past Kelleher nine minutes into kick-off against Brentford, with Squawka reporting that the 25-year-old has now scored at 22 of 23 stadiums he has played at in the Premier League; the highest ratio of any player in Premier League history (96%).
This is a developing story. More to follow.
