Now that’s more like it. The New Orleans Saints got their first win in 2025 against the New York Giants on Sunday, capitalizing on five turnovers to rout Big Blue, 26-14. And it could’ve been an even bigger margin of victory if not for Blake Grupe missing two field goals.
And that means both first-year head coach Kellen Moore and second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler have earned their first career wins. Sure, we shouldn’t make too much out of a 1-4 coach and 1-10 QB. But everyone has to start somewhere. Finally getting in the win column is going to be tremendous for locker room morale. When wins are this few and far between, we’re going to enjoy them.
We can’t make enough out of the work Brandon Staley’s defense did, especially the secondary working without veteran safety Justin Reid for much of the afternoon (he was ruled out early with a concussion). After allowing two Jaxson Dart touchdown passes on their first two drives, the Saints buckled down and ended every New York drive in the second half with a takeaway or turnover on downs.
One of the most encouraging plays was an 87-yard touchdown pass from Rattler to Rashid Shaheed. Those deep shots had been unsuccessful through the first four weeks, and connecting on one here made a huge difference. We’ll need more of them moving forwards.
