Sunday’s loss to the Vikings was a brutal one for the Cleveland Browns.
They didn’t get blown out like they did against Baltimore or Detroit. Instead, much like they did in Week 1 against Cincinnati, the Browns dropped a very winnable game in London. Cleveland won the turnover battle, two to zero, and sacked Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz three times while holding a lead for nearly the entire fourth quarter. In the end, though, it was the Vikings’ offense that came through, putting together an efficient 10-play, 80-yard drive to take a 21-17 lead with under 30 seconds remaining. That final touchdown would prove to be the difference-maker in this one, and the Browns are now 1-4 as a result.
The late collapse by Cleveland’s defense spoiled what was otherwise a solid day for Browns’ rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel in his first-ever NFL start, and an impressive showing for several of the team’s other selections from April’s draft.
Let’s take a look at how Browns fans are taking the loss to Minnesota.
The loss itself
The Browns are a small handful of bounces away from being 3-2 right now, but the unfortunate reality is that undisciplined football has put Cleveland where it’s at right now. Winning the turnover battle doesn’t matter quite as much when you manage to rack up ten penalties for 78 yards over the course of the day, or convert just three of your 15 third down opportunities. Dropping another game because of self-inflicted wounds this early in the season hits hard, obviously.
We almost always almost always almost win baby #DawgPound

KEVIN STEFANSKI IS AN INCOMPETENT HEAD COACH.
I’m SO tired of this Bro.#DawgPound

-Another week in the #NFL…
-Another Browns QB
-Another Browns loss
-Another game they could’ve won
-Another undisciplined performance of penalties
-Another week of excuses from the Head Coach
-Another season of disappointment#Browns#DawgPound#TheLand#FactoryOfSadnesspic.twitter.com/l0EdRnG1Ac— Don Fowler (@donf0615) October 5, 2025
When you play to not lose a game rather than playing to win the game usually backfires on you. That scary, conservative approach by Stefanski is baffling to me. @Browns#DawgPound

We won the turnover battle against the Vikings 2-0 with Wentz starting at QB, and the Vikings missing 3 Offensive Lineman and we still lost. 😭😭😭#DawgPound

Now that’s a classic @Browns loss 😂 what a miserable franchise #DawgPound

I’ve always defended Stefanski but this loss was on him. Awful clock management, questionable play calling and personnel decisions. Just an awful day for Kevin. #DawgPound
— Yubo Wang (@yubowang) October 5, 2025
Our defense was a couple lucky fluke RB fumbles and a missed field goal away from giving up like 40 pts to Carson Wentz #DawgPound

Who the quarterback is becomes irrelevant when you have 10 penalties for over 70 yards. 🤨#Cleveland#Browns#DawgPound

Kevin doing play calls like he’s trying not to lose instead of trying to win. And it’s so obvious and frustrating.#DawgPound

Browns offense is just trash and it always will be .. Judkins and Fannin will make some things fun but we will always fail in clutch .. didn’t even have to score just get first downs and have the worst play calls ever not scheming anything open

Dillon Gabriel’s debut
Dillon Gabriel didn’t light the world on fire, and that’s reflected by his stats: 19-of-33, 190 yards, and two touchdowns. The rookie quarterback clearly gives the Browns’ offense a floor that they weren’t getting out of Week 1 starter Joe Flacco, though. Gabriel has already thrown for more touchdown passes this season than Flacco had through four starts, and he kept the ball out of harm’s way on Sunday. It was a solid, if unspectacular, first NFL start for the third-round pick from Oregon.
The offense just looks “right” with Dillon Gabriel. Better run pass splits. Better play action. #DawgPound

You can easily spot people who don’t know ball because they think Dillon Gabriel played poorly. First NFL start against a top 7 D Coordinator and he moved the ball all half despite not having a single LT on the roster that belongs in the NFL
— Justin, Esq. (@RealityIsRude) October 5, 2025
Gabriel has been refreshing today tbh. So much better than a 40 yo holding onto the ball forever and stuck in mud
— Clevta (@Clevta) October 5, 2025
I’ve been impressed by Dillon Gabriel in the first half.
— Colb (@___Colb___) October 5, 2025
Gabriel has felt very professional level just like preseason

The fact Dillion Gabriel is playing clean is big!
As a rookie Against the Flores defense he is putting up a great performance compared to everyone before him.
Dont think we seeing Shadeur this year lol
— Jay (@JLettucewrist) October 5, 2025
I thought Dillon Gabriel looked good in the 1st half. He looked calm and poised for a rookie making his 1st ever start. Only made 1 really bad throw so far. #DawgPound

Dillon Gabriel looks solid 👏🏽 #DawgPound

Hey #Browns fans! Dillon Gabriel looks like he has some untapped potential! Let’s give him a chance why don’t we!
In all seriousness. We need to see what he can do. So many good takeaways from that first half against a really solid Vikings defense. #Dawgpoundpic.twitter.com/DJtldCr103

Gabriel is just so much better than Flacco it’s just shocking that we ever started him
— stretch (@stretch_htg) October 5, 2025
Gabriel is a smart QB. Hasn’t went downfield a ton but you can tell he’s not Kessler
— Content Browns – Focus (@TheKardiac_Kid) October 5, 2025
Dillon Gabriel is playing with fear but it’s also an impressive performance from a rookie. Sanders may never play.

The rookies
The Browns’ other 2025 rookies aside from Gabriel got plenty of run on Sunday, and through five weeks, one thing has become clear for the Browns: Andrew Berry hit it out of the park in April. Quinshon Judkins was the star — the second-round pick and former Ohio State Buckeye had his first 100-yard day in the NFL — but the Browns got yet another great performance from Carson Schwesinger on defense, and Harold Fannin Jr. gave the Browns an early lead with his first NFL touchdown.

Loving watching this #Browns rookie class today:
Dillon Gabriel, QB
Quinshon Judkins, RB
Dylan Sampson, RB
Isaiah Bond, WR
Harold Fannin Jr, TE
Mason Graham, DT
Carson Schwesinger, LBAll making plays in London.#NFL#DawgPound#RookieWatch

Cleveland’s Offense looks promising with rookies Gabriel, Judkins, Bond, and Fannin. #ClevelandBrowns#Judkins#Fannin#NFL
— kennysmiff (@kennysmiff) October 5, 2025
On the bright side, Cleveland Browns rookies looked excellent. Quinshon Judkins is the real deal, Harold Fannin Jr is an absolute playmaker and Dillon Gabriel played good. If there was any more time on that playclock, Gabriel probably leads them to a game winning TD.
— Gabriel B (@RealGabrielBay) October 5, 2025
carson schwesinger is everywhere! I’ve yet to see a defensive play without him right there no matter where on the field

Carson Schwesinger is easily my favorite rookie so far. That dude is a menace
— Austin (@AStheGOAT24) October 5, 2025
Carson Schwesinger is a baller at LB

Seems like Schwesinger already has 16 tackles. Dude is in on every play.
