Broncos might have their Ben Powers replacement (but Sean Payton isn't spilling the beans)

The Denver Broncos may already have their plan for replacing Ben Powers in the starting lineup, but coach Sean Payton isn’t going to reveal it.

Powers is expected to miss around two months after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn biceps on Monday. He’ll likely be placed on short-term injured reserve later this week with the hope of returning in December.

Alex Palczewski is listed as the backup guard on Denver’s depth chart, but he’s been serving as an extra blocking tight end in Jumbo formations, and Matt Peart spent time at left guard and left tackle during preseason. In the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to media members, Peart was spotting getting reps at left guard in the place of Powers.

After practice, Payton was asked if Peart will replace Powers in the starting lineup, and the coach said, “We’ll see.”

The Broncos seem unlikely to reveal their starter before Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
