Ex-New York Giants WR Victor Cruz likens Cam Skattebo to Ahmad Bradshaw

While the New York Giants‘ first-round selections in the 2025 NFL draft generated significant buzz, equal enthusiasm erupted when the team selected fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo to complement Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the backfield.

It didn’t take long for the hype surrounding Skattebo to come to fruition on the field. His high-energy personality and aggressive running style have been a delight to watch from the outset of his professional career.

In a recent interview with Giants Wire, former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was asked how Skattebo reminded him of his ex-teammate Brandon Jacobs. Cruz responded.

“Oh man, to be honest, he reminds me more of Ahmad Bradshaw than Brandon Jacobs. I think Ahmad Bradshaw played with this kind of reckless abandon of doing whatever it takes to win,” Cruz said. “No matter what it did, he’d run into a brick wall for us in order to win a football game and if he could, he’d rarely miss a game.

“You know, I’d see Ahmad sometimes being barely able to walk all week long and then somehow muster up the energy to play a football game on Sunday afternoon, and it was so crazy to see and I think Skattebo embodies some of those same attributes of like, ‘I’ll do whatever it takes for my football team to win and to put these guys on my back and to let these guys know either through my play and through what I say and how I move around the building that like I’m here and I’ll give my all for this football team,’ and that’s what you love about him.”

Ironically, Bradshaw himself attended the Giants’ Week 4 victory at MetLife Stadium, where he was spotted wearing his iconic No. 44 jersey — except this time, “Skattebo” adorned the nameplate on the back.

The comparison to Bradshaw represents high praise from Cruz, as Bradshaw was a cornerstone of the Giants’ two Super Bowl-winning teams. Throughout his career, Bradshaw frequently powered through defenders or dragged them along while gaining crucial extra yards. His rare blend of speed and power exacted a heavy toll on opposing defenses.

The Giants view Skattebo as a foundational piece to build around for years to come.

Despite a regrettable fumble in Week 5, Skattebo has thrived in Tracy’s absence over the past few weeks. He will continue to earn opportunities to showcase his value as the Giants’ offense seeks to establish its identity without star wide receiver Malik Nabers.
