Bengals never called Giants about Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston

As the Cincinnati Bengals evaluated their options at the quarterback position following three poor starts from Jake Browning, multiple names popped up within the media as speculation for possible additions for the team. Two of those names both currently play in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Giants quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were both considered potential targets for the Bengals in a possible trade before the team ultimately dealt with the Cleveland Browns to acquire Joe Flacco.

As it turns out, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Bengals never reached out to the Giants about either quarterback. The Bengals decided to send a 5th-round pick to the Browns for Flacco and a 6th-round pick.

While still veterans, Wilson (36) and Winston (31) are at least younger than the 40-year old Flacco and were thought of as options to give a spark to the Bengals offense that has mightily struggled through five weeks, including posting one of the worst rushing attacks to start the season.

Instead, the Bengals will lean on a quarterback that will now be playing for his third team in the AFC North (including winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens) and seventh team overall, having also played with the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts.

Ideally, Flacco holds the fort until about mid-December, keeps the Bengals in playoff contention and allows Joe Burrow to return for a late-season push.
