Packers kicker Brandon McManus' status up in the air for Bengals game due to thigh injury

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers didn’t anticipate needing Irish-born kicker Mark McNamee this season, but there’s a chance he could be playing for them against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 12.

Veteran kicker Brandon McManus showed up on the injury report Oct. 8 with a right thigh problem and coach Matt LaFleur said he had a plan to replace him if he can’t play.

LaFleur said the injury occurred in practice Oct. 8 and not on either of the two tackles he made against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 28. McManus appeared to be shaken up after one of those tackles, but it wasn’t related to his current injury.

Packers kicker Brandon McManus (17) kicks a field goal to send the Sept. 28 game against the Cowboys to overtime.

“We’ll see how he does today and tomorrow, and we’ll have a plan if he isn’t ready to go,” LaFleur said before practice Oct. 9. If McManus can’t kick, it’ll be McNamee, who signed at the start of training camp but didn’t report until Aug. 9 because of visa issues coming to the U.S. McNamee kicked with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League before signing with the Packers.
