In his latest injury update on Wednesday night during his radio show, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz indicated it’s “realistic” that quarterback Mark Gronowski will be able to play on Saturday against Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis.
The graduate senior quarterback, who has been progressing through a knee injury suffered in the Hawkeyes’ 20-15 loss on Sept. 27 against Indiana, was reported as “day-to-day” by On3 earlier this week. However, Ferentz’s words on the Hawk Talk radio show now give the Naperville, Ill., native a much more optimistic forecast for this upcoming Saturday.
“No flare-ups this morning. He’s practiced just fine,” Ferentz said. “Right now it’s realistic to think he’ll play (at Wisconsin). Nothing’s written in ink right now.”

While Gronowski started the season a bit slower than expected, the transfer star has started to rebound effectively and has provided confidence to the offensive unit.
Gronowski has completed 64.2% of his passes for 636 yards and three touchdowns against a pair of picks. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound signal-caller has also rushed for 150 yards and seven scores.
Although Ferentz admitted that a final decision on Gronowski’s status is still not concrete, the news gives the Hawkeyes a better idea of who may be behind center against a desperate Badgers squad.
