The Oklahoma football team picked up its 21st commit in the Class of 2026 on Friday when Jacob Curry pledged to play for the Sooners.
Curry is a four-star composite linebacker/safety hybrid from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, a suburb of Jacksonville. His commitment made him the 11th defender in coach Brent Venables’ 2026 class, which now ranks 21st in 247Sports’ rankings and 10th in the Southeastern Conference.
Curry had narrowed his list to Ohio State, Florida State, and Oklahoma. He had originally committed to play for Northwestern, but reopened his recruiting as his stock rose. The Sooners are expected to play Curry, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, at linebacker.
“(Oklahoma inside linebackers coach) Nate Dreiling was the first coach to ever offer me back in the fall of 2023 when he was coaching at a different school,” Curry told Sooners Illustrated.
In his junior season, Curry finished with 101 tackles, including 12 for loss, to go with eight sacks, seven pass break-ups, and two forced fumbles in helping Nease High School to an undefeated regular season. Those totals saw Curry named as the St. Augustine Record All-County Defensive Player of the Year.
In the meantime, Oklahoma will take its No. 6 ranking in the US LBM Coaches Poll to Dallas on Saturday to play 19th-ranked Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
