ECHL returns to 1st Summit Arena Saturday night

The ECHL returns to 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial at 7 p.m. Saturday with the Diamond Anniversary Pro Classic.

The Wheeling Nailers meet the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in a preseason game to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the arena.

In 2010-11 and 2011-12, the Nailers played 10 regular-season games each season at the War Memorial before the Johnstown Tomahawks debuted in 2012-13. The Johnstown Chiefs played in the ECHL from 1988 through 2010.

Wheeling is the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, while Greenville serves as the Los Angeles Kings’ farm team.

Johnstown’s ECHL franchise relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, becoming the Greenville Road Warriors in 2010. The team’s name later changed to the Swamp Rabbits.

Wheeling was 43-25-4 in 2024-25, and advanced to Kelly Cup Playoffs. Greenville was 27-37-8.
